5 Signs You Need a New Car Battery From Your Chevy Dealership
1. Not Starting
A car that doesn’t start is perhaps the most obvious sign of a bad battery. When your battery is completely drained, it can’t get your engine going.
Another indicator is a car that’s slow to start but eventually gets going. A dying battery may have enough power to rotate the engine, but not enough voltage to kickstart the various systems. If you notice that it takes a while for your engine to get any momentum, consider having the battery checked.
2. Electrical Issues
Do you notice strange electrical issues when using your Chevy? Slow movement, odd sounds, and erratic engine activity can all point to a dying battery. Batteries with low voltage cannot support all of the electrical signals and readings delivered between systems within your vehicle. This can lead to malfunctions and odd electrical occurrences in everything from the radio to the headlights.
3. Battery Damage
Car batteries can be located in a variety of different spots, including under a seat or within the truck. Some batteries are located under the hood, near the radiator. Batteries that aren’t located in more insulated spaces can become cracked in freezing temperatures.
Batteries located in vulnerable positions are susceptible to damage from certain driving habits. Driving on rough or rocky terrains can cause excess vibration that shakes loose inner components of the battery.
4. Age
Vehicle batteries aren’t immortal. If it’s been a long time since you got a new one, it might be time for a replacement. Most car batteries last three to five years before they start losing significant power.
If you’re not sure how old your battery is, you can check the manufacturer sticker located on the outside. This is usually a round sticker with a numerical date on it, such as “3-2,” meaning March of 2022. Some manufacturers use a letter to denote the month, such as “D-3” to indicate April of 2023.
